Its tough being a dad, but somebody has to do it!

Whether you are a stay-at-home dad, single dad, or just a regular dad, spending quality time with your children is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your kids.

by Malik Green

As a dad you have many responsibilities to your family.  You have to earn a living, take care of the home, and make sure the kids are fed, clean, and have done their homework.  On weekends you are busy with handyman projects and grocery shopping.  You also play taxi driver, taking the kids back and forth to after school activities and play dates.

Finding quality time to spend with your children can be a daunting task.  After committing most of your time to earning a living and running your household, you have very little time left for yourself and your significant other.

In order to make this work you must learn to manage your time effectively.  Time is a precious commodity and should be treated as such.  Scheduling time to spend with your children will help you become a better dad and allow you to build a stronger bond with them.

One way to schedule and spend quality time with your kids is to join a “Daddy & Me” program.  Daddy and Me programs have sprung all over the country in the last 20 years.  I am sure this is due to the increase in single dads, and stay-at-home dads over the last two decades.

Joining a “Daddy and Me” program is an excellent way for dads and their children to spend some fun time together.  Spending fun time together with your children will forge a powerful bond between you and them.  This bond will prove to be very important in their later years.  You and your children will develop a greater understanding of one another when you spend quality time together.

As a father of three, I can attest to the joy and closeness I experienced with my children when I spent quality time with them.  If you are a dad and would like to spend more time with your children, I highly recommend you check out one of these “Daddy & Me” programs:

There are several benefits to joining Daddy & Me programs.

  1. The fun and joy you will get when you see you children enjoying themselves being with their daddy.
  2. You get to be around other dads, and get to learn parenting tips from other dads.
  3. These programs are structured.  The activities and events are well coordinated, and conducted in a manner that allows dads to focus on having fun with their children and not on organizing or supervising the activities.

If you are interested in joining a “Daddy & Me” program you can begin with the following website:  http://www.meetup.com/.   At this website you can search your area for “Daddy & Me” programs.  These programs are not usually conducted as an individual entity.  They are usually sponsored by a community group, or local church.

If you have trouble finding a “Daddy & Me” program in your area, the same website – http://www.meetup.com/ can help you find one.  They will also allow you to create your own “Daddy & Me” program.  You can form your own group of dads and setup your own activities and events for dads in your town right on this site.

Remember, being a dad is a wonderful thing, but it also comes with great responsibilities.  Be a great dad; spend quality time with your children.

FYI:  If your cleaning chores are preventing you from spending quality time with your kids, then you should give Teresa’s Family Cleaning a call.  We’ll take care of your cleaning chores, while you take care of your children.
