Five House Cleaning Tips: Never Let Any Part of Your Home Get Too Bad

2) Never let any part of your home get too bad
Clean Computer ScreenThis is a hard one but is do-able. It is much easier to maintain a clean bathroom or kitchen than it is to do a deep clean when things go awry. Keep cleaning items like these homemade spot wipes on hand in the bathroom and spot clean few days a week instead of waiting until the weekend, hoping you can carve out 30 minutes to deep clean. When my kids were babies I found myself cleaning the bathroom at 2 am because that was the only time I had and it seemed to take forever because I let it go all week. These days, I try to wipe down the sink and toilet at least every other day.

Keep some Daily All Purpose Cleaner  and a microfiber cloth in your kitchen and wipe down your counters, load  the dishwasher and put all the dishes away before you go to bed. I don’t know about you but I love waking up to clean counters and an empty sink. A clean kitchen helps me start my crazy day off on the right foot.

Time
Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, suggests if a chore takes a minute or less, it should be done. This could be simple chores like sorting mail and tossing the  junk, putting the cereal and breakfast items back in the closet, hanging up coats, picking up stray toys, etc. A little here, a little there can add up to a tidy house at the end of the day.

Five house cleaning tips: Get your older children to help

5) Get your older children to help

Loading DishwasherThis might be hard for some moms to “let go” but it can be a tremendous help. Children as little as two years old can do simple tasks like helping set or clear the table (plastic items only for the little ones) load/unload the diswasher, pick up dirty laundry and place in baskets and even sweep or vacuum with a hand vac. Set up colorful baskets to organize toys and encourage your kids to help clean up after breakfast or before bed. Making the clean up process fun will increase your chances of them seeing it as a game as opposed to a chore.

Buy them kid sized brooms and dustpans and let them go crazy. Not only are they helping you out but you are also teaching them valuable skill and helping them feel a sense of accomplishment. Put on some music and have a fun cleaning party! Read More →
